The Motability Scheme is a scheme which can support you in getting access to funding for key mobility aids such as wheelchairs, mobility scooters and other aids to ensure you can live an independent lifestyle.
At Aspire2 we are proud to be an official supporter of the Motability scheme which can if you are eligible support, you in getting a new electric scooter or mobility aid every 3 years. The scheme is overseen by the UK government, and you must be eligible for the scheme to access to savings.
Do I qualify for a mobility allowance?
To qualify for a mobility allowance, you must be actively receiving one of the below disability allowances:
- Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Higher Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Higher Rate Mobility Component of Child Disability Payment (Scotland)
- War Pensioners’ Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
- Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
You’ll also need to prove you have a remaining 12-month allowance when you’re looking to apply for support on your mobility scooter.
How much is Mobility Allowance 2021
According to the official information provided by Motability UK the current allowance is £62.55 per week as of the 14th of April 2021. However, this can change depending on the overall disability benefits you’re currently receiving,

- Enhanced Rate Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (ERMC PIP)
- As of 12 April 2021, this allowance is £62.55 per week.
- Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (HRMC DLA)
- As of 14 April 2021, this allowance is £62.55 per week.
- Higher Rate Mobility Component of Child Disability Payment (Scotland)
- As of 26 July 2021, this allowance is £62.55 per week.
- War Pensioners' Mobility Supplement (WPMS)
- As of 14 April 2021, this allowance is £69.85 per week.
- Armed Forces Independence Payment (AFIP)
- As of 14 April 2020, the mobility element of the allowance is £62.55 per week.
If I'm over 65, can I still join the Motability Scheme?
Yes, you can still apply for the mobility scheme if you are over the age of 65 as long as you are still receiving a mobility allowance which covers one of the below.
- Enhanced Rate of the Mobility Component of Personal Independence Payment (PIP)
- Higher Rate Mobility Component of Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Higher Rate Mobility Component of Child Disability Payment (Scotland)
